Reaction to Gosnell verdict

Activists and commentators on both sides of the abortion issue reacted to the Kermit Gosnell verdict. Pro-abortion organizations condemned Gosnell but turned the decision around to argue against restrictive abortion laws. “Anti-choice politicians…will only drive more women to back-alley butchers like Kermit Gosnell,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America in a statement. She said Pennsylvania had received an ‘F’ from NARAL because of its “medically unnecessary laws that restrict access to safe and legal abortion care,” implying that Gosnell’s back ... Politicians use family for pro-abortion ends

There appears to be a new trend among today's politicians and other influential figures: to use one's family members as a reason or prop to support Planned Parenthood. Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and former U.S. president Bill Clinton, is the latest to do so. At the Women Deliver conference, which took place in Malaysia May 28-30, Chelsea Clinton was asked who influenced her worldview, especially her thoughts on where ... (Continue reading)

Is the pro-life view racist?

Lately, I've been contemplating the extremes pro-life advocates will go to in order to spread our message, and whether those actions are honourable. What about those who oppose our work? We are no strangers to outlandish claims and ad hominem attacks – we've been called “fanatics,” manipulative, and much worse.  I hesitate to say anything truly “new” has been added to the list of late, but the terms that are at the front of some minds this week are “privileged” ... Douglas Karpen alleged to have twisted the heads off newborn babies Editor’s Note: This article contains graphic descriptions that may offend some readers. An investigation has been launched of a Texas late-term abortionist who reportedly twisted the heads off babies born alive. Florida abortionists’ malpractice exposed

An investigation by Jillian May Melchior for the National Review shows that the horrific and illegal practices within Kermit Gosnell’s Philadelphia abortion mill are not unique to his House of Horrors. The article focuses on three facilities in Miami, Hialeah, and Miramar located in Florida, operated by Frantz Bazile, Belkis Gonzalez, and Siomara Senises. The abortionists working at the trio’s facilities included Bazile himself (currently doing abortions at Hialeah) and Robelto Osborne, both of whom botched at least one abortion, causing ... Abortion advocates worry doctors turning their backs on the procedure

A shortage of obstetrician-gynaecologists in Italy willing to provide abortions is making abortion advocates worried. Government figures indicate that the proportion of gynaecologists conscientiously objecting to providing abortion increased from 58.7 per cent in 2005 to over 70 per cent in 2007 and the rate has remained largely constant since then. The pro-abortion group Gynaecologists for the Application of Law 194/78 (LAIGA) claims that the figure is at 80 or 90 per cent in some regions, as some ob-gyns are ... (Continue reading)

Live Action exposes abortuaries’ willingness to kill newborns

LeRoy Carhard compared a dead unborn baby to meat. Four new videos released by Live Action show that the killing of newborns is not as unusual an occurrence in American abortion mills as abortion advocates like to claim. In the undercover footage, a part of the organization’s new investigation, “Inhuman: Undercover in America’s Late-Term Abortion Industry,” the actress is assured by staff ... (Continue reading)

What happens when the killing ends?

My morning at the abortion facility yesterday did not go as planned. For some reason, the staff did not come in. The centre was not open, but the Campaign Life Coalition team still decided to pray across the street. Seeing the empty staircase and closed doors made me wonder what would happen once we end the killing. What would we as pro-lifers do? Would there still be a need for peaceful witnessing and other activity? I imagine ... (Continue reading)

Pro-lifers cannot be ostriches

In two days, I will be joining my fellow interns for the first time when we make our weekly visit to pray near our local abortion facility. They have already gone for a few weeks, while I've had to sit out because of an injured foot...and an apprehensive heart. My primary pro-life activities fall under the movement's educational arm, so I do not have much experience with activity near abortion centres.  I have avoided it for a ... (Continue reading)

Pro-abort charged for throwing hot coffee on pro-life protesters

Toronto police released photos of a man and a woman wanted for assault and criminal mischief against pro-life demonstrators who were holding signs on March 18 at a demonstration at Harbord Collegiate Institute in Toronto. The demonstrators were holding signs depicting first-trimester aborted babies with the word “choice” printed above them, and distributing leaflets to high school students when a man wearing a black toque and fleece spat on a member of the Canadian Centre for Bioethical Reform’s “Choice” Chain ... Morgentaler, RIP

Canadian abortionist Henry Morgentaler has passed away. Stories at LifeSiteNews.com, Canadian Press, the state broadcaster, and Globe and Mail. It is hard not to turn this post into a critique of the media -- journalists will get all slobbery over the abortionist. While the media coverage will depict Morgentaler as a hero, it is worth noting he was a highly divisive figure. His true legacy is not one of promoting the rights of women, but of ... Fr. de Valk to be honoured by the Catholic Civil Rights League

This week, Fr. Alphonse de Valk will be honoured by the Catholic Civil Rights League. Fr. de Valk is a former editor of The Interim. We've wrote a lot about him late last year following his retirement from Catholic Insight magazine: about the dinner in his honour, my tribute to him, and my review of his book Morality and the Law in Canadian Politics: The Abortion Controversy. In 1991, The Interim had a wonderful feature on ... (Continue reading)

Planned Parenthood opposes protection for abortion survivors

A representative from Planned Parenthood refused to say to Florida legislators that babies who survived an abortion should not be killed. Alisa LaPolt Snow of Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates was invited to speak before the House Civil Justice Subcommittee on March 27 on HB1129, a bill mandating that abortion survivors receive medical care from hospitals. It ultimately passed the subcommittee by a 10-2 vote. Snow shocked Florida lawmakers by her comments. When asked by Rep. Jim Boyd (R) what ... (Continue reading)

Gosnell guilty

LifeSiteNews.com has the story of the jury's decision finding abortionist Kermit Gosnell guilty of  murdering three of four babies in which he was charged as well as the involuntary manslaughter in the 2009 death of  Karnamaya Mongar. The penalty phase of the deliberations begin next week and there is a gag order in effect until that time. The Washington Post has a long article on the decision. This, from the LSN story, is baffling: "The 'not guilty' count ... (Continue reading)
