| Are there studies to show how a low
birth-rate is affecting the population of Canada as a whole, and Québec
in particular?
E. M. Montreal In May 1987, Jacques Henripin, a professor of demographics at the university of Montreal, warned the Liberal party of Québec of the dangers to the province in its low birth rate. Dr. Henripen stressed that Quebec’s fertility rate of 1.4 children per woman was well below the 2.1 rate needed to replace the population. He added that demographic studies showed that if the birthrate remained at 1.4, and there was no massive immigration, Quebec’s population would fall from over six million in 1987 to 3.5 million in 2080 AD. If however immigration continued at its present rate, and the birth-rate at 1.4, the descendants of today’s Quebecers would make up only 12 to 13 per cent of the province’s population in 2080. Only part of the 12 to 13 per cent would be French Canadian. For some years the Quebec government paid no heed to the warning, but more recently someone has noticed the red light, and there are now efforts to encourage larger families by some easing of the financial load on parents. Canada’s fertility rate is
the same as Quebec’s, far below replacement. Abortion, sterilization and
contraception have taken, and continue to take their toll.
Are there any survivors of abortion
in Canada like Gianna Jessen of Franklin, Tennesee? Her story was in Pro-Life
News June-July.
I am sure that there must be, but I cannot find any accounts in my files. There have been abortion survivors at pro-life conventions in the US, and maybe in Canada too, but my mind and my files are blank. Can any of our readers, (doctors, nurses, pro-life groups, etc.) supply any stories? The Gianna Jessed story was a reprint from National Right to Life News, May 7, 1996. In April 1996, Gianna, who is a beautiful 19-year-old young woman, was a witness when the scope of Roe vs. Wade was reviewed by a U.S. house of Representatives Judiciary Committee. It is reported that when she gave her evidence there was an “unusual hush.” Even the press and the pro-abortionists fell silent. |
