| Dinner/dance
set for Apr. 17
Interim special TORONTO -- The 13th annual
St. John the Evangelist parish pro-life dinner/dance is set for Friday,
April 17, 1998. The popular spring fund-raisers have become an important
annual event in support of Campaign Life Coalition.
The guest speaker for the
evening will be Rebecca Pontiso, founder of Mary Mother of God School in
Parkdale (downtown Toronto).
Rebecca, a graduate of St.
Joseph’s College School, will speak on the subject, “Educating Children
in Today’s World.”
Previous speakers at the
St. John the Evangelist dinner/dance have included pro-life prisoner of
conscience Linda Gibbons, who attended the 1996 event. Linda had been released
from prison the very day of the dance and chose to spend part of the evening
with supporters.
Other highlights of the dinner/dance
include catering by Johnny’s Country Kitchen. As well, organizers have
lined up Peter Green to provide DJ services for the dance portion of the
evening. Green is offering his services free of charge.
The dinner/dance has been
described as “a good occasion to welcome spring and to once again stand
up and show support for the life and work of Campaign Life Coalition.”
While the evening is meant
to be festive, it is always important to keep in mind the unborn child
threatened by abortion.
Organizers point to a recent
comment by Father Paul Marx, founder of Human Life International, who said,
“Last week, here in Canada, close to 2,000 children died by abortions --
and most people never even noticed.”
St. John’s is located at
49 George St. (Weston Rd. and Lawrence area). Tickets are $25. Door prizes
and a 50/50 draw are available.
