On the road by air

As my business occasionally takes me to different parts of Canada, recently I have begun to contact various pro-life groups in the cities I visit. In August, for example, I was in Calgary and in Edmonton (two days each), and in September, business took my partner and I to Vancouver for a week. I cannot speak too highly of the kindness and generosity extended by those I have contacted. Everywhere, people gave ... (Continue reading)

CYPLO

Youth for Life The Canadian Youth Pro-Life Organization (CYPLO) came into existence in 1974 with a purpose: to bring together pro-life high school, college and university students and young working people to educate themselves, grow in leadership and effectiveness in the pro-life movement, to transform society, to ensure respect for all the weak, defenseless and helpless. In April 1983, the new executive dedicated itself to remaking society in a pro-life image. April was the month in which CYPLO held its annual ... (Continue reading)

Lessons from the pro-life scene in Britain

Returning to Toronto after teaching for three years in the University of Aberdeen, in Scotland, I have been asked to try to interpret the pro-life situation in Britain in hope of seeing what can be learned from the British experience.  I believe that a look at that experience can be helpful since the present situation in Britain is considerably worse than it is in Canada, while we can look forward to a similarly bad situation here if pro-life efforts are not ... Natural family planning and human responsibility

Free will and the ability to assume responsibility for one’s actions establish the spiritual importance and dignity of man.  Indeed, we have come to equate maturity with a willingness to direct our behavior in terms of our goals as well as to accept the consequences of our choices.  If we look at family planning methods in this light, we can see that natural methods of family planning allow us to live out this vision of man. N.F.P. encourages us ... (Continue reading)

A pro-abortion rally held at the same time at Nathan Phillips Square, outside Toronto City Hall, drew 350 people, according to Toronto Police. Toronto Rally for Life pro-life rally Oct.1, 1983

Friends of the Unborn: October 1st, 1983 will go down in the pages of Canadian History as the day the enemies of the unborn were turned back. The people of Ontario set aside personal comfort and convenience and marched on Queen’s Park under the banners; “Defenders of the unborn”, or “Defenders of human rights”, or “Equal opportunity for all”. Tell the politicians and legislators, in no uncertain terms, that abortion clinics and abortionists are not wanted in Ontario, in Canada ... (Continue reading)

The psychological benefits

In previous articles, we have given a brief history of Natural Family Planning, outlined the biological basis of one method of NFP, the Ovulation Method, and discussed how this is learned and used. But there is more using a method of family planning than technique. The choice often, without the user being aware of it, can have an impact on the user’s self-image and upon a couple’s relationship. Much has been written about the physical risks of ... (Continue reading)

The Interim needs you!

The Interim began because we felt there was great need for a national pro-life newspaper in Canada to report honestly on the issues which affect us all. The media in this country are dominated by the pro-abortionists-with a few isolated exceptions-and it is not possible to rely on impartial reporting in any area where a pro-life view should be heard. From our first issue, the main objective of The Interim has been, and will continue to be, to keep our ... (Continue reading)

A Message from the Administrative Board of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops

A Message from the Administrative Board of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops September 7, 1983 Ethical Reflections on Respect for Life Introduction Never before in history has human life been so menaced on our planet, in its growth and in its very existence.  All of us live under the shadow of fear cast by the spectre of a nuclear war.  Governments of both left and right – in the name of national security – strip their ... Pro-life philosophy

After some reflection, anyone is bound to object that 'pro-life philosophy' is as redundant a phrase as is 'round wheel' or 'flat plain'. And they would be right! Still, there may be some merit to setting down a few of the obvious aspects of our common stance in favor of life and of free will. Why do I add "free will"? Because no advocate of life would seek to curb someone's freedom or its accompanying responsibilities any more than they would ... (Continue reading)

Pro-life marches are effective

On Mother's Day we held our fourth annual Rally and Walk. As in previous years, it was a tremendous success. In spite of its success, some people have asked if we feel it is effective - doing the same thing year after year, and is it, in any way, helping to stop abortions? Without hesitation, I answer "yes" to both questions, but perhaps for a different reason that you might expect. Our large membership has supported us every step of the way ... (Continue reading)
