Same-sex marriage

As a concerned citizen, I am troubled by the recent ruling by three liberal, unelected Ontario judges endorsing same-sex "marriage." Pierre Trudeau, the icon of Canadian liberalism, decriminalized homosexual acts (also called sodomy and buggery) in 1969 with the ringing slogan, "The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation." Paradoxically, ever since then, homosexual activists have been leading us by the nose in the opposite direction. They have been mighty busy trying to get the state (and the judiciary and the people) even more involved in the homosexual bedrooms of the nation.

One well-publicized example of this phenomenon is the same-sex "marriage" performed on Jan. 14, 2001 in the predominantly homosexual Metropolitan Church in Toronto by its homosexual pastor, a well-known gay activist. The state has been asked to bless this "marriage," and the people have been asked to accept it, without any debate in our so-called free and democratic society.

This spectacle reminds me of the fairy tale in which the emperor wore the finest of his finery at a public ceremony. Trouble was, his clothes were so fine that everyone could see through them. Since the people were politically correct sycophants, no one dared tell the truth, except for a little child, who in his sublime innocence, blurted out: "The emperor has no clothes!"

The emperor has no clothes in today's Canada, the land of make-believe. We have been so brainwashed by years of homosexual propaganda and political correctness, we are so sheep-like and fearful that we refuse to see the obvious. Everyone pretends nothing is wrong - except an innocent, "unsophisticated," honest child.

A man "marrying" a man, a woman "marrying" a woman? Come on, people, wake up! George Orwell, that intellectual giant who warned us of the brainwashing of whole societies by totalitarian special-interest groups, taught us to hold fast to down-to-earth common sense, our faith and traditions and the obvious facts of life.

The sad spectacle that took place in the Toronto Metropolitan church was against the teachings of all major faiths, against the laws of nature and against the laws of the land.

God help us!

Gay marriages not an 'equal right'

The Bible shows marriage is an exclusive relationship between one man and one woman based on a commitment made in the presence of a witness. No court or government on earth has the right to change this ("Marriage under assault," in the August Interim). Any government that does will alienate itself still further from an already strong and growing Christian community. Homosexual lobby groups are pushing the government to pass legislation that would allow same-sex marriages. If this is done, other laws will also be challenged.

We have laws that prohibit marriage between a man and a minor, a brother and a sister and polygamy, along with laws that forbid sex with a minor, incest and bestiality. There are people who want the freedom to live these lifestyles. There are those who indulge in these activities, claim they were born with their preferences and want the liberty to pursue their own orientation. If the government legalizes same-sex marriages, it will open a Pandora's Box and unleash problems with which it will have no ability to cope.

God instituted marriage, and He alone has the authority to say what constitutes marriage. He created sexuality, and it is his sovereign right to establish the boundaries for its expression. The refusal to acknowledge God and accept his word is the root of all deviation and perversion. St. Paul described the descent of such societies in his day by saying, "Their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise they became fools ... And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind." (Romans 1:21-22 & 28)
