Support the CHP I
Hurray to The Interim for putting it quite clearly ("Pro-life and politics," January). The Christian Heritage and Family Coalition parties can win exactly the same way as any other party – by winning the most votes. These parties, the only ones that are pro-life, have not won yet because so many pro-lifers have voted for pro-death parties. I look up to the many efforts, sacrifices, and donations of politicians like Tom Wappel. But I would not vote for them because they are members of pro-death parties. If you do not vote for the CHP, then you are voting partly pro-life, conditionally pro-life. Other parties split the pro-life vote, unashamedly pulling votes for pro-death parties.
Pro-lifers claim that we need an anti-abortion law. We will get such law when we have a government that will bring in such law. Only the CHP vows to bring in such a law. But, when it counts during an election, pro-lifers (at least, those claiming to be pro-life) don't want to vote for the CHP.
The right to life is not "an issue," but the primary issue for any authentic pro-lifer, though not for the pseudo pro-lifer. If innocent babies can be killed in the most cruel ways, enjoying the sunshine will be short lived. Soon more and darker clouds will cover the sun - pornography, single parenting, homeless children, abandoned elderly. Pray, and then join, support and vote CHP.

I appreciate Raymond E. Park's letter ("Is the CHP electable?" January) and the fact that he is a Christian and admires the CHP. Nevertheless, he says thousands of Christians and pro-lifers fail to vote CHP because (as Parker states) the CHP isn't viable. On the surface, due to the CHP's size at present, such a conclusion appears logical. Thus, it would appear to be justifiable to ignore the CHP, if we use the wisdom of this world. Yet, the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. Those of us who profess Christ are not to rationalize as the world does. We are to walk by faith, not by sight.
With our prevailingly defeatist attitude towards the CHP, are we not expressing a lack of faith in God, who is well able to catapult the CHP into office in spite of all odds? And really, the odds aren't bad, considering that approximately 80 per cent of Canadians claim to be Christians and 51 per cent not minding being governed by biblical principles. Remember that many Israelites of old failed to enter the promised land of Canaan because of their fear of the giants in Canaan. They revealed a lack of trust in God. As a result of their sin of unbelief, God chastised the nation as a whole to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. Likewise it will be with us, if we continue to fail to support the CHP. God may punish us as well to 40 years of Liberal rule, in which we continually wander around in circles in the wilderness of sin.

Having read "Is the CHP electable?" reminded me of the days when I ran for the Social Credit party. I was constantly told, "If I thought you would get elected, I would vote for you." My reply was, "If all you people who talked that way rooted for me I would be elected." The best I ever got was 15 per cent of the vote. Yes, it would be great to be in power in Ottawa, but that is not everything.
There are thousands of Christians who have been backing and helping the CA with hopes of God being permitted back into the public schools, the right to life from conception to natural deathbeing upheld and the promotion of many more family benefits.
However, evil influence on the party is very strong. For example, Steven Harper at a meeting in Smiths Falls, Ont. in January during the leadership campaign, said he did not believe there should be an article in the Alliance constitution on abortion. He also refused to discuss abortion when asked questions on it. He has a strong following for his views.
Will the pro-life, Christian community hang in there and be strong enough to do something about abortion and other evils in our community? Eventually, we Christians, pro-life people and others are going to realize that to get something done we must join, work for, and vote for a party that in its constitution is a solidly pro-life, Christian-principled party that has and honours in its constitution "the sovereignty of God and the rule of law." This party is the CHP. Until then, the party and its people must continue to influence the public with God-honouring principles and lifestyles.

The true sanctity of life
A profound thought was presented to me by my husband as we discussed the recent abortion underwent by a close family member. The young woman chose to end her child's life for many reasons – some known, others will ultimately remain a mystery. She was a devout animal rights activist and staunch vegetarian for 10 years and passed judgement on those of us who chose animal protein as part of our daily nutritional regimen. Her apparent horror at eating the flesh of other living creatures, creatures who deserved respect and consideration for their mere existence on this planet, has now become somewhat of a hypocritical farce. Yes, there is merit in the honour given to all of God's creations, and rightly so. However, the ethics and morality continually being preached to omnivores are deeply perplexing. How is it, that it is not ethical to eat anything with a face or a heartbeat or a mother, yet it is moral to kill a human - a small innocent baby with a face and a heartbeat and yes, a mother. How many countless hypocritical animal-loving vegetarians have committed murder on their own children?
With all the outrage and senseless killing in the U.S. and the world today, and the deep sorrow felt globally, the conscious act of murder is not acceptable. The taking of a life, however small, however insignificant in comparison to world events, deserves the same outrage, the same heartbreak. As a Christian, it is my duty to speak for the tiny forgotten lives that have no voice. "Thou shalt not kill," whether it is 6,000 innocent people or one tiny baby. Think about it.
I am deeply saddened by the tragic event in my family, an event that I could not thwart even with continuous prayer. I will remain a pro-lifer for life.
A sad postscript to this event is that the same young woman, just three months after her abortion, is now pregnant again, ready to repeat this murderous act. How can we protect these little ones? Please pray. Thank you for reading this.
