God led Mira to enter the wrong door
By Grace Petrasek
A few years ago, George, a counselor for the past 11 years at Aid to Women in Toronto, was doing his weekly day in the office. A grandfather of 19, who drives in from his out-of-town home, George was a wondering what the day would bring.
As it turned out, early in the afternoon, a pretty young Indian women, Mira, walked up the stairs to the office, for a 3 p.m. appointment, thinking that she was at the abortuary next door. George began to chat with her in his easy, friendly way. She told him that she was a third-year university biology student and was four months pregnant. She would have to have an abortion to continue her studies; besides, her parents were Hindu and would disown her if they knew about her situation.
Calmly, George discussed her baby's present stage of growth and showed her pictures and models of fetal development. With her biology background, she quickly understood that her baby was a growing human being and slowly began to reject the idea of an abortion. She would tell her boyfriend, even though it would upset him, and then would call upon friends to help her.
George began to help her too, by immediately referring her to a pro-life physician, who agreed to see her and follow her throughout the pregnancy. When she left the office she quietly said, "You know God made me enter the wrong door."
As is often the case, counsellors at Aid to Women wonder what happens to the distressed women they talk to. They know that some will go ahead and have the abortion while some will not, but often they don't know the outcome. George recalls, "Mira was a lovely, intelligent, refined girl of good character, very scared but very special." When she left the office, he "hoped for the best."
He need not have worried. Six months later, he received this note from her:
Dear George, God has placed something special within you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the time you spent with me, for your understanding, for your kindness and compassionate heart. You have been an instrument in my life and my baby's for helping me make the right decision God is well-pleased with. For the lives of those you have touched like myself, your gains are many and to rejoice in God. Bless you always. My Love, Mira.
George keeps this note among his treasures.
