Criticism exaggerated

Re: "Canada's century" (Dec. 1999). This feature article written by David Dooley, Winifride Prestwich, Hugh Loughran and Gwendolyn Landolt pointed out moral lapses in our governmental, judiciary and media systems. Two of the writers, David Dooley and Gwendolyn Landolt, underlined how such deficiencies have developed through the actions of our leaders over the years.

David Dooley concentrated on the leaders, but Gwendolyn Landolt went further, and, although she followed the common theme of the article, exemplified such a pro-British - as well as subliminally anti-bilingual and anti-French attitude - that she consequently left one wondering about the validity of her position vis-a-vis pro-life issues. She may be a member of REAL Women of Canada, but she worked hard with her contribution to "Canada's Century" not to be a real Canadian!

Although it is true that our elected leaders, in large part Catholic in upbringing, have acted to establish certain laws which appear contrary to Christian and Catholic philosophy, it is we Canadians, 45.3 per cent Catholic (according to the Year Book of the Encyclopedia Britannica of 1998), who elected them. The problem is not just who runs the country, but who elected our leaders and why the voice of 45 per cent of Canadians has not been directed towards influencing the government's actions. There can be no doubt that if such a large element of the population of Canada registered disapproval of euthanasia, abortion, and such other matters of concern, the leaders of our country would soon take heed.

I found David Dooley, and especially Gwendolyn Landolt, exaggeratively condemnatory of our leaders, with the latter being also unjustly derogatory of the general Canadian picture. As a result, any corrective advice of the article was unfortunately all but buried in the recrimination!

Putting a face to it

I read with horror your article on Rebecca Davies (Dec. 1999). I cannot imagine her anguish in seeing her own child torn from her body and murdered before her very eyes. What is the world coming to? I have known and read that these forced abortions go on - more than we know, I'm sure; but putting a face to it in reading about Rebecca was especially heart-wrenching. Please congratulate Rebecca for getting up everyday and living with such a cross. I will remember her and her family in my prayers.

Letter to Morgentaler

Re: "Preventive capital punishment?" Sept. 1999) I should very much like to address the following to Dr. Henry Morgentaler:

Your insolence is unbelievable. How dare you suggest that abortions have reduced crime and mental/physical inferiority in the community? What a slap in the face to every woman who has had an abortion! You kill their children and then tell them they would have been scum anyway!

Do you realize how much you have contributed to the AIDS epidemic and the spread of sexually-transmitted diseases? By peddling abortion as the easy way out of a "mistake," you have encouraged thousands to dispense with protected sex. We are now witnessing the consequences.

Decay of civilization

At the turn of the millennium the mass media are full of concern for the change over of computers, etc., and I would suggest that there is an even more grave concern, which exists in the loss of our Western Civilization based on Christianity.

One has to be over fifty years of age to appreciate the rampant decay of this civilization that started about 1945 - after World War II. In the "dirty thirties,"poverty never caused crime; children played on the city streets with no need of a Neighbourhood Watch; many country homes never locked their doors at night; the cruelty of gang rapes was associated with barbarous peoples, not the local spoiled brat teenagers.

In WWII in Britain, street lights were banned - every light was blacked out. There were millions of foreign soldiers stationed there, yet none had any fear of walking the streets at night. I was in a city that got bombed regularly. Shop fronts were blown in, and I never once heard of anyone looting. Today, a sports final celebration results in hooligan looting, with the spoiled brat teenagers at the forefront of it. To understand what happened we have to go back to about the year A.D. 33 when Christ was crucified.

At that time the Roman Civilization was in decay. Moral values were being deserted. Fornication, adultery, divorce, sodomy, abortion, etc. were accepted as lifestyles. As Christianity sprang up, it was met by a barbarous religious hatred that lasted for 300 years. It took some 300 years of horrendous persecution and martyrdom of the Christians to bring civilization back to sound moral values.

The recent passing of the equal rights for sodomites by the Ontario legislature on Thursday, October 28, a day of infamy, has to be the death knell of our Christian civilization. All the ingredients for the persecution of Christians, including religious hatred permitted under Canada's hate law, are there today, just as they were in A.D. 33.

We have elected representatives who dare to call themselves Christians. These so-called Christians who recently voted their assent to this sodomy bill in the legislature contradict and mock the very precepts and martyrdom of our early Church Fathers. They have put our civilization back almost 2000 years in one stroke, and have laid the groundwork for another barbarous religious persecution. They would do well to take heed of God's words to the "lukewarm" in Apocalypse 3:16: "But because thou art lukewarm, neither hot, nor cold, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth."

Hollow victory

According to a study by Mr. Dennis Hoover (who works for an American institute studying religion in public life), the religious right in Canada is on the rise and throwing its weight around. To illustrate his point, he uses the recent granting of special rights for gay unions by Ontario Premier Mike Harris. Hoover acknowledges the fact that due to pressure by conservative Christians, the present definition of spouse remains intact and protected, even though gays and lesbians have been given special rights.

To me, this is a hollow victory at best for Christians and those of other faiths, for the homosexual activists are closing the gap toward getting the benefits of heterosexual marriage. Unless the religious right starts voting seriously at election time, where there is an opportunity to vote for a candidate who at least espouses biblical morality, it's only a matter of time before there will be no difference between same-sex and opposite-sex marriages.

True, the religious community has won some victories in the past, but these have been few and far between compared to the continuous onslaught of bad legislation at both the federal and provincial levels.

but these have been few and far between compared to the continuous onslaught of bad legislation at both the federal and provincial levels.

If Christians and others are really serious about ending legalized abortion, gambling, homosexual activism, and educational discrimination, to name a few things, I suggest they make a complete right turn by rallying behind political parties of like convictions wherever possible, and help make these parties grow so they are more viable in their respective jurisdictions. At present, the two political parties that are committed to implementing biblical morality if elected are the federal Christian Heritage Party of Canada and the Family Coalition Party in Ontario and British Columbia.

These two parties have been overlooked for too long by even the Christian community, yet voting ethical candidates into Parliament to govern is at present the only sure, moral and legal way for all faiths to finally obtain their objectives. Who knows if the FCP and CHP have not been raised up by God for such a time as this.

Pro-life unity

Isn't it time that we pro-lifers recognized that we are all on the same side and that we have a common enemy, the various anti-lifers? We seem to have difficulty recognizing that we all have different ways of fighting them. Some of us are writers, speakers, picketers, demonstrators, etc., and rather than criticize each other about the way we do what we are good at, we should concentrate on our own abilities and leave others with theirs, congratulating them for their efforts and hoping they will recognize ours. I have seen the problem nationally and also right in our own backyard here in Saskatchewan. Let's get together and save our attacks for the enemy.

If an abscessed appendix is about to rupture and only pain killers are given to treat the symptoms, the patient will die within hours or even minutes. Immediate surgery is required to remove the diseased appendix.

Likewise, if our demoralized planet is causing abortion, euthanasia, genocide, murder, and starvation for millions and all we can do is express our outrage and try to help the victims as much as we can while the immorality continues to grow, these injustices will only be multiplied until the evil perpetrators have full control of the earth's people. Immediate action is required to drastically reduce immorality now.

But how? What we are doing is not enough, and most are not doing anything about it. We need millions more workers! We need more leaders! We need God on our side. We need answers, information and direction!

Grandparents, buy a subscription to this informative newspaper for yourselves and for each of your children who are not living at home or share your newspaper with them! We need to stamp out indifference, complacency, and apathy! Get up thou sluggard and mobilize! Join a pro-life group - increase the size of our marches and rallies so politicians will see we are a force to be reckoned with if they want our vote! We need men, women, teens; each person is a stitch in the fabric of justice.

We have only a few dedicated workers - a handful of people are working full time against all odds and are making a difference but for every three steps forward they are thrown back two. Still, if a handful can make a difference, how much more could millions do? We could succeed! Abortion must be put back into the Criminal Code.

Before long another federal election will be upon us. We need to assemble now.
